How to Read a THCA Certificate of Analysis

A practical framework for matching a laboratory report to a product and spotting missing information.

Start with identity

Confirm the product or batch name, report date, laboratory identity, sample type, and batch identifier. A report that cannot be matched to the exact inventory should not be treated as proof for that inventory. Scan any QR code independently and compare the hosted report with the supplied copy.

Read the cannabinoid panel

Separate THCA from delta-9 THC and total THC. Review units, reporting limits, moisture basis, and whether the sample is flower, concentrate, or finished goods. Potency alone does not establish contaminant safety or legal eligibility.

Check the safety panels

Look for pesticides, heavy metals, residual solvents, microbial contaminants, mycotoxins, and foreign matter as appropriate to the format. Confirm each result against the laboratory’s stated limits and record any panel that was not tested.
