Pricing for Margin Without Losing Competitiveness

Balance protected cost, operating expenses, market bands, and quantity discounts.

Know the floor

Start with complete landed cost, then include payment, packaging, support, returns, promotions, taxes, and expected loss. A simple markup on supplier price may not cover the full transaction.

Use market bands carefully

Compare equivalent specifications, condition, size, count, and service. Market averages are references, not commands; unusually low competitors may exclude freight or reflect distressed inventory.

Design quantity breaks

Larger quantities can have lower per-unit prices while preserving contribution margin. Review each tier independently so a discount never crosses the protected minimum.
