THCA, Delta-9 THC, and Total THC Explained

Understand the three numbers most often confused on hemp documentation.

Different measurements

THCA is the acidic precursor shown separately from delta-9 THC on most cannabinoid panels. Total THC is commonly calculated using a conversion factor because decarboxylation changes molecular mass. These figures answer different questions and should never be substituted for one another.

Why the formula matters

A frequently used calculation is delta-9 THC plus 0.877 times THCA. The exact reporting convention should appear on the laboratory report. Buyers should use the governing jurisdiction’s definition rather than assuming every state applies the same formula or testing basis.

Use careful language

Catalog copy should reproduce verified laboratory values without promising effects, medical benefits, or universal legality. Keep units and decimal places consistent with the source report and update listings when a new batch replaces the old one.
